Shaping Early Years Policy

For the UK Government, I am Early Years co-lead for the new Department of Education-funded Educational Neuroscience Policy Research Centre

Together with colleagues at ISEY I also contributed to the Early Years Screen Time Advisory from the Department of Education. We have also contributed to new teacher training packages being developed by the DfE for 0-2s and Reception, and to the Early Years Design Guidance for school-based nurseries.

I have also given advice to Select Committees including Department of Science, Industry and Technology and the Department of Culture, Media and Sport, and given departmental CPD sessions for the Department of Education.

For NGOs, I have contributed evidence and literature reviews to the Book Trust, the Queen’s Reading Room, the National Literacy Trust, and others .

Internationally, with colleagues at ISEY I have contributed to educator and parent training materials for Moments Education, led by HRH Princess Noor bin Asem of Jordan.

By applying rigorous neuroscientific methods to shared reading groups and book clubs, we aim to build a clearer evidence base for how these collective experiences shape connection and belonging.
